My sweet baby girl puppy dog dog dog

I'd like to talk about my lovely dog. Her name is Ladybird and she is white and grey with nice floppy ears and a fluffy tail. She was found with another dog (maybe her partner?) with gross mats, dirty fur and a really bad smell. She and the other dog were placed at a facility that was overcrowded. They were going to put her and her friend down, but called Maggie at P.A.W.S. and she made room for them. Maggie works at a farm turned temporary home for dogs. She rescued them like a superhero for animals. Maggie called them PoppaSmurf and Smurfette. Poppa had one eye and no teeth. Fast forward a month. It's the first weekend in November '09. My brother Matt and I are in Greenfield and I really want a dog. The local Tractor Supply Store was hosting an adoption for shelter cats and dogs. She was totally shaved, had brown tear marks on her face and seemed so small. Matt and I asked to see her and Matt said, "She's a good dog. I can tell." I was hooked. After some convincing with Jamie, we became her people.

Our vet said she is about 7 years old and had a litter of puppies. She likes to be near us and she sleeps either back to back with me or at the foot of our bed. She loves soft squeaky toys and going for walks. She also loves baked goods, but that story is for another day. She is fiercely protective, almost to a fault. We need to work with her on getting along with other dogs and she does not like men with ponytails. I'm not sure if that is related to her past or maybe she thinks it's a fashion faux pas.
